Okay, this issue is for a friend's computer, for the life of me I can't figure it out trying to solve the problem. Their sound does not work on their computer, presumably the sound card is not installed. They reformatted the computer and for whatever issue, their sound was not installed when they used the restore disks that came with the computer.
The system is able to detect that the sound card is there and treats it as new hardware, which normally would be fine, re-install and away you go, but that's where the problem comes in. I have found the newest drivers for the sound card, the system recognizes the sound card as a Realtek AC'97, but when you go to install it, the system craps out, gives you the Blue Screen of Death and wants you to restart it. I have tried getting the drivers from various places but they all meet the same end. Any help would be appreciated.
